DEMENTIA AWARENESS
(1/2 OR 1 DAY COURSE)
It has been estimated that there will be 2 million people living with dementia in the UK by 2050. Dementia currently has no cure and is also poorly understood by families of people living with dementia, but also by many people working in the Health and Social Care sector.
The 3 hour course will explore the basics of what is dementia, how does it impact upon the human brain, the different forms of dementia and how they differ, and start to explore some basic communication and support strategies for family members or those working with a people living with dementia.
The 6 hour course will go much deeper into how people living with dementia are impacted and will explore behaviours that challenge in dementia and how person centred approaches help supporting those living with dementia.
COURSE DURATION
This course takes place over 3 or 6 hours in a classroom or remote environment.
To have empathy means to have a sense of other people’s emotions and understand how another person may be thinking and feeling. To have empathy for a person on the autistic spectrum, we must begin to understand how that person may be experiencing the world around them.
This Autism Awareness course will help people working with an autistic person a better understanding of autistic experiences.
The 3 hour course will provide a basic grounding in how the autistic brain works and why this may impact on how they experience the world around them.
The 6 hour course I offer goes into far greater detail and also begins to explore support strategies for an autistic person. I will also look at the subject of sensory processing in autism and how it may impact upon a person
AUTISM AWARENESS

POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT(PBS)
(1 DAY COURSE)
Behaviours that challenge are a common feature of many conditions which health and social care staff are working with daily. The starting point for understanding these behaviours is by adopting a person-centred approach.
Positive Behaviour Support is a person-centred approach to behaviour which is considered as best practice by both CQC and Ofsted. PBS approaches also lead to better outcomes for the people we are supporting.
This Positive Behaviour Support course is a 6 hour course and is aimed at those staff working in environments where behaviours that challenge is a feature, and will help staff to both understand the basis of PBS approaches and how to implement them in practice.
We look to use examples from your own services where possible (case studies will be provided if not) whilst maintaining confidentiality of those involved.

MENTAL CAPACITY ACT & DEPRIVATION OF LIBERTY SAFEGUARDS (MCA/DOLS)
(1/2 DAY COURSE)
This MCA & DoLS Course is aimed to help care providers and their staff to develop an understanding of the responsibilities and duties around the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA). This essential training is for workers involved in the care, treatment and support of adults who may lack capacity in making life decisions.
The course is available as a 3 hour introduction course or a more in depth 6 hour course which will explore the themes in far greater detail.
Our training offers vital support for social care providers so they comply with the Mental Capacity Act and Care Quality Commission requirements, and promote human rights.

SELF HARM AND SUICIDE AWARENESS
(1 DAY COURSE)
The term ‘self-harm’ is used to describe a wide range of behaviours. Self-harm is often understood to be a physical response to emotional pain of some kind, and can be extremely addictive. Some self-harm behaviours individuals do are quite well known, such as cutting, burning or pinching, but there are many, many ways in which people self-harm, including abusing drugs and alcohol or having an eating disorder.
Sometimes, it’s more important to focus on how someone is feeling rather than what they are doing to themselves. This Self Harm and Suicide Awareness course is essential for anyone who supports vulnerable individuals who are at risk of attempting suicide or self-harm by a number of means. This course gives you skills and knowledge to recognise self-harm and ligature injuries among other types of self-harm.

LEARNING DISABILITY AWARENESS
(1/2 DAY COURSE)
This Learning Disabilities Awareness course lasts 3 hours will help health & care practitioners understand the issues surrounding learning disabilities including the relationship between learning disabilities and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) with the purpose of helping learners reflect on and improve how they care for people with learning disabilities.
There will be a strong emphasis on person centred approaches and understanding the issues that people with learning disabilities and how best to support people by adopting active support principles.

TRAUMA AND ATTATCHEMNT
(1/2 DAY COURSE)
This course will focus on what we mean by attachment and the principles of attachment theory.
Learners will understand how trauma impacts upon a child development and the patterns of attachment. We will cover how to identify signs of attachment disorders in a child and how this may manifest in challenging behaviour in children. Learners will develop the core strategies in supporting a child positively with disorder attachment.

EPILEPSY AWARENESS
(1/2 DAY COURSE)
This course is aimed at people who work with individuals who have epilepsy.
It will give learners an understanding of epilepsy as a diagnosis and its management and treatment. They will be able to understand the psychological and social impacts of epilepsy on individuals and their families. learners will be able to recognize a seizure and know how to take the appropriate action. it will highlight what an emergency situation is and what action they should take.
We will also cover the importance of appropriate car plans and risk assessments to improve an individuals quality of life and ensure a safer environment for a person living with epilepsy.

DIABETES AWARENESS
(1/2 DAY COURSE)
This course is aimed at people who work with individuals who have diabetes.
Learners will come away understanding diabetes and its symptoms. they will learn early interventions of type 2 diabetes and how to care for someone after being diagnosed. Learners will understand how to treat and manage diabetes and the problems which can arise in regards to privacy.

UNDERSTANDING SENSORY PROCESSING DISORDER (SPD)
(1/2 DAY COURSE)
This course will help to understand how the sensory processing system works and how SPD impacts upon the lives and behaviours of people we work with.
Learners will understand what SPD looks like at its prevalence in Autism, The different forms of SPD and hyposensitive/hypersensitive reactions. They will also learn what SPD looks like in each of the senses and support strategies for a person with SPD.

CARING FOR CHILDREN WITH ADDITIONAL NEEDS
(1/2 DAY COURSE)
This course is designed for individuals who work with children who may have additional needs. Learners will explore all legislations and guidance whilst learning how to overcome issues that could arise. learners will also understand the problems younger children can face in placements and how these can be resolved.

ADHD AND CONDUCT DISORDER AWARENESS
(1/2 DAY COURSE)
This course explores what ADHD and conduct disorders are and their causes and symptoms. Learners will identify types of challenging behaviour linked with these conditions and the functions in ADHD. this course also covers links between ADHD and other medical conditions.
This course is designed for people who work with individuals, particularly younger people, who have been diagnosed, or show characteristics of ADHD and/or conduct disorder.
